One of the most anticipated films of the year, First Man, is out today. On the heels of their six-time Academy Award-winning film, La La Land, director Damien Chazelle and Ryan Gosling have teamed up again for this riveting adaptation of author James R. Hansen's biography of Neil Armstrong. The film chronicles the harrowing (and deadly) decade-long journey to put a man on the moon. It explores the triumphs and the costs of such a dangerous mission, almost entirely told from the point of view of the astronauts who lived through this remarkable feat of human ingenuity. As the viewer, you experience the rigors of space—from the roaring rocket ride to the sheer vastness and quietness of the cosmos—unlike with any other film before.
And through it, Gosling as Armstrong is kitted out in perfect '60s Space Race style. From some handsome all-American oxfords to a handful of period-correct accessories. Omega outfitted the actors in authentic Omega Speedmasters (which are now on sale with a special edition box that even comes with a proper astronaut strap) and Gosling can be seen gazing at the sky in a pair of standard-issue AO aviators with bayonet temples. In short, it's a good look and if you're interested in swiping a few ideas, here are the pieces to get you started.
