Fold Like a Pro

Mastering some precision folding techniques ensures that you'll have an organized wardrobe of well-cared-for clothes. An orderly stack of shirts makes quick and easy work out of both dressing and packing. From a clever T-shirt filing system (that provides you access to the one you're looking for without disrupting the stack), to a wrinkle-free way to pack your dress shirts, we've rounded up some of the ultimate folding solutions. And they're easier than you might think.

T-Shirts

1

Fold a face-down shirt in half lengthwise.

2

Fold both sleeves over and bring the bottom hem up to the collar.

3

Fold the stack in half once more making a small rectangle.

File them vertically in a drawer so the folded "spines" of the shirts are visible.

Sweaters & Long-Sleeves

1

Lay face-down, bringing the left sleeve to the right side of the hem.

2

Smooth any wrinkles on the side and repeat with the right side.

3

Fold the top half down over the lower half.

Stack of Shirts

1

Neatly pile the shirts together face-down, with arms spread wide.

2

Fold the top half of the stack over the bottom half.

3

Cross the sleeves across the top half.

Place the stack at the top of your suitcase and hang-up when you arrive.

FYI

Hanging a sweater will stretch it out. Always fold. A commercial folding board ($5) makes quick and uniform stacks.
